It doesn't appear that there are any surprises in this list. Lawrence and Wilson were picked ahead of Lance in the draft in April. Fields was also a top five candidate prior to the draft, but was unable to make it during the draft for reasons that remain undetermined. The group also includes Jones, who was picked 15th overall.
It is likely we will have Lawrence and Wilson start for their teams in Week 1 and there's also a decent likelihood that Fields is able to leave Bears training camp as QB1. However, Lance and Jones are unlikely to start in 2021 given the injuries of both the quarterbacks in the top two spots -including Jimmy Garoppolo (and Cam Newton) The odds are that it will not be long before either rookie is on the field.
Many have speculated on Lance's ability to play during his rookie season. Garoppolo is still the probable starter for Week 1. Brian Baldinger, an NFL analyst, recently said on his podcast that Lance will be "shocked" to not touch the ball at all in the 49ers season opener.
